A time for everything.

A time for everything. Found a great poem in the Bible applicable to step/blended families. Sharing just some of it. A time to plant and a time to uproot. A time to tear down and a time to build. A time to embrace and a time to refrain. A time to search and a time to give up. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be silent and a time to speak. A time for love and a time for hate. A time for war and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3.

Fairy Dust Do-Over for StepMoms

Fairy Dust Do-Over for StepMoms

Tinker Bell was on to something when she threw around some of her fairy dust.  I wish we had some of our own just for step moms; a little stepmom magic if you will.  No more awkward moments, dirty looks, or under-handed jabs.  Drop a little dust when no ones looking and bye bye stress bird.

Going to a parent teacher conference?  No problem.  A little sprinkle here a little sprinkle there, and enjoy the rest of the evening-- You, hubby, and the step kids.

A graduation you say?  I have a fix for that.  A dab here a dab there and so long flies in the ointment.

Meeting half way?  No sweat.  A touch of this a touch of that and later to the hater.

A birthday you say?  No biggie.  A pinch over here a pinch over there, and blow away.

Yes siree, a little fairy dust could go a long way.  Stepmom magic is available and it is free.  Want to get your hands on some?  Who wouldn’t-- You, me, the whole family.  Let’s get together and make us some.  It has to be legal, safe, and free.  Easy access to anybody.  Drop me a line if you know how and together we can help stepfamilies.

Man charged with slaying his sister-in-law

Not only does he stab his sister-in-law, but he also kills his nieces.  What could have driven this young man to be so violent?  Why was the 6 month baby not harmed--was this baby his?  What do you think about in-law violence/abuse?  Is it as bad as it seems or does it reach only a very small population?

Is your mother-in-law your mother; or is your mother- your mother?

I remember doing a radio interview and being caught off guard when asked, "Doesn't the Bible say to Honor your Mother and Father?" Basically, the caller was judging me because in my book, the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are not speaking till this day. First off, she's not my mother, which is what I should have responded, and secondly, I just found the answer to his question. As I read the...
Word this morning I found in Mark 3: 31-35:

"Then Jesus 'mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you." "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother." Ha! Ask me that question again, I will have an answer for you.   Who do you say is your mother?

StepMonster- The book have you heard about it?

I belong to several stepfamily groups on facebook and I just happened to come across this article on Psychology today. One of the groups had posted it.  I thought the author of stepmonster did a good job on explaining some of the family dynamics. If you notice, it includes adults hating the stepmom. I'm pretty darn sure it is the mother-in-law, leading that parade folks.  What say you?  See below for the article.

Stepfamily or Blended family or Bonus family- who cares? They do!

 Taken from stepbystepmediation.com:

Research has shown that calling a Step Family a “Blended Family” can actually set that family up for failure. During the first 5 years of Stepfamily formation they are trying to figure out the Boundaries/ Rules/ Family position and Roles. They are hardly “Blended”. When they and society put an unrealistic expectation on themselves by using this terminology they are adding stress onto an already stressful situation because they may feel like they are failing at Blending their family.
Society needs to accept and call Stepfamilies for who they are – a gathering of people from two separate families who have come together to create a new and unique family system. Just as Adoptive Families and Foster Families are celebrated for their uniqueness, Stepfamilies should be as well.
Be proud of your Stepfamily and rejoice in your connection and know that in time you will “Blend” but at the beginning it may feel more like you are in a Blender.

What say you?

Wife looking for advice

I found this article in circle of moms. This wife shared her marital business w/her mother and now her mother and husband hate each other. This is a common dynamic in marriages today.  Read her story below:

The bottom line-  What happens between husband and wife stays between husband and wife.

Unresolved conflict can prove fatal

Unless issues with the in-laws are resolved, escalation can prove to be fatal.  Even conflict with our spouses can prove fatal.  Take this sad but true story between a spouse, a mother-in-law, and a stepdaughter:

Apron Strings- Who should cut them off?

We all know at least one person who can be categorized as a "mama's boy."  I have a very good friend who loves being one and he is 52 years old.  But what exactly are apron strings and who should cut them off?  Should it be the adult son, his wife, his mother, anyone?    Or do they need cutting at all?  What are your thoughts?

The Price is Right or is It? | Gomestic

The Price is Right or is It? | Gomestic

The price is right or is it?

The Price is Right- Or is it?

Peace at any cost some say, but how much will it cost?

This morning as I was reading my Bible and preparing for my radio interview on Spiritually Raw (www.Spirituallyraw.com), to discuss my book, “She’s not my mother-in-law: She’s my husband’s mother”,  I came across—“Things get worse before they get better but God will keep us afloat through the whole business.” My mind is blank right now regarding where I saw it exactly, but that isn’t important. What is important is that I read it and I could relate.  I must be headed right towards my jackpot I said to myself because I have hit one tornado after another.  I have been hit in my finances, my body, my patience, with my children, my spouse, my ex-spouse, and my extended family-- need I say more?  However, I have not drowned. I have stayed afloat, but it cost.

Behind door #1 we have corruption.  Door# 2 has resources and door # 3 bonding. I have been through each door.  Some voluntarily and others pushed in.  What is behind each of these doors?  If you are interested in door # 1 go to http://www.lawlessamerica.com/ Inside you will read about Atlanta’s most corrupt judges, government, and law enforcement in the United States.  We have been there and done that.  My husband and I faced the Juvenile Court Giant and survived.  We have our custody war scars to prove it.

Door# 2 has the USABFA- United States of America Blended Family Association which I am a member of.  Here families with yours, mine, and ours are welcome.  The USABFA works to connect blended families with one another and with the resources they need to build a healthier community by bringing blended families together and strengthening the bond they have with one-another and their communities.
www.usabfa.org  As a new member I am excited about the possibilities of sharing with others who are paying a similar price and also staying afloat.

Lastly, behind door # 3 is The Bonded Family Movement—seeing your stepfamily grow from broken to blended to bonded (www.thebondedfamily.com).  How beautiful is that.  I just learned of this movement today preparing for the show.  And as luck would have it, all my preparation and material I reviewed wasn’t even in the show.  I guess God has other plans as He usually does.  The Bonded family exists to serve blended families by helping them find encouragement, hope, and motivation as they learn proven practical step-family tips and techniques, inspired by 14 years of experience, research, study, and a faith-based foundation. Their vision is to strengthen and support marriage and children, and enhance the quality of everyday family life.

There you have it.  Door # 1 tries to sink you.  Door # 2 keeps you afloat ,and door # 3 helps you soar.  I’m not sure how much it will cost, but I bet the price will be right.  If you are interested in more information on step/blended families please visit http://www.millermediators.com/ or you want a Piece of Me on Facebook.  To find out more about my book, please visit http://www.outskirtspress.com/rebeccamillerpringle  I look forward to seeing and meeting local step and blended families on September 16th for Stepfamily Day at UCC in Cresskill!
